Aurora Dentist Attorney Withdraws Following Arson Arrest Ahead of Murder Trial

Robert Werking, one of the attorneys representing James Craig, a former Aurora dentist charged with the first-degree murder of his wife Angela Craig, has withdrawn from the case following his arrest on a felony arson charge. Werking was found sitting on the front porch of his burning home in Centennial, leading to his arrest and subsequent motion to withdraw from the case, as confirmed by the Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office. Craig faces multiple charges including murder by poisoning, soliciting tampering with evidence, perjury, and soliciting murder from jail. This marks the second attorney to withdraw from Craig's defense as his trial, originally scheduled for November 2024, is now set to begin on July 10, 2025. Despite Werking's withdrawal, co-counsel Lisa Moses and attorney Ashley Witham will continue to represent Craig. The arrest affidavit related to Werking's arson charge remains sealed due to concerns over the trial's integrity, raising questions about the potential impact on the upcoming proceedings.
