Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has been awarded a contract for a 10 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery storage plant under India's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, aimed at enhancing domestic manufacturing and reducing import dependency. The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) announced this decision, with RIL emerging as the top bidder among seven contenders, who collectively aimed for a total capacity of 70 GWh. The bidding process utilized the Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) mechanism, and RIL will receive incentives worth Rs 3,620 crore for this capacity. This award is in addition to the 5 GWh capacity previously secured by the company in an earlier bidding round. The PLI scheme, launched in 2021 with a budget of Rs 18,100 crore, intends to position India as a global leader in ACC battery production. The five remaining bidders have been placed on a waitlist based on their rankings.
