Ukraine is set to receive an $800 million aid package from the United States to help stabilize its severely damaged energy infrastructure, which has been affected by Russian strikes, with over 50% reported as impacted. The announcement was made by Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister, during her visit to Washington, where she also met with Deputy Energy Secretary David Turk. This funding is part of ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine, which has totaled approximately $175 billion since the beginning of the conflict in 2022. Svyrydenko highlighted that the aid will assist in constructing passive protection systems and procuring critical equipment for immediate repairs. Additionally, the recent dismissal of Ukraine's Air Force commander has been characterized by Defense Minister Rustem Umierov as a routine rotation, dismissing any links to a recent incident involving a U.S. F-16 fighter jet.
