Six Killed, Four Injured in Al Shabaab Attack in Garissa

On March 23, six individuals were killed and four injured in an Al-Shabaab attack on a National Police Reservist camp in Biyamadhow, Garissa County, during a well-coordinated early morning raid. The militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, not only attacked the camp but also looted it, escaping with an unknown number of weapons. Authorities have noted increased militant activity in the region, raising concerns of further attacks as Al-Shabaab operatives have been reported mobilizing near the porous Kenya-Somalia border. In response to the assault, a multi-agency security team has been deployed to pursue the attackers and reinforce local security efforts. The U.S. Embassy recently issued a travel advisory warning against travel to the Kenya-Somalia border due to the heightened risk of terrorism and kidnapping. Officials have indicated that the attack may be linked to retaliatory motives following the arrest of an Al-Shabaab member by Kenyan authorities.
