White Sox Champion Bobby Jenks Dies at 44
Bobby Jenks, former Chicago White Sox All-Star pitcher and 2005 World Series champion, died at age 44 in Sintra, Portugal, after battling stage 4 adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer. Jenks earned four saves in the 2005 postseason, including recording the final out of the World Series, helping to end the White Sox’s 88-year championship drought. Over six seasons with the team, he tallied 173 saves and was selected as an All-Star twice, becoming known for his electric fastball. Despite later facing health and personal struggles, including losing his home in the Palisades fires, Jenks remained a beloved figure in baseball. Tributes were shared by teammates, managers, White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, and former manager Ozzie Guillén, who honored his legacy and impact. Jenks is survived by his wife Eleni Tzitzivacos, their two children, and four children from a previous marriage.
