Vanessa Picken Exits Sony Music Australia New Zealand CEO Role

Vanessa Picken is stepping down immediately as CEO and Chair of Sony Music Australia and New Zealand after nearly three years in the role. She took over in June 2022 following the departure of Denis Handlin, who had led the company for 37 years and left amid investigations into workplace issues. During her tenure, Picken modernized the organizational structure, enhanced digital and marketing efforts, and expanded growth through experiential and licensing ventures, while emphasizing artist wellbeing. Despite formal complaints and an investigation into her conduct in August, Picken was cleared of any wrongdoing. Sony Music Group Chairman Rob Stringer thanked her for her leadership and support of local talent, wishing her success in her future endeavors. Picken, the first woman to hold this position, expressed pride in her achievements and hopes to inspire others to pursue leadership roles in the industry.
