Jayson Werth’s Icon Racing Wins First Saratoga Race
Jayson Werth, a current president and former Major League Baseball All-Star and World Series Champion, has successfully launched Icon Racing, a horse ownership syndicate aimed at lowering barriers to entry in the horse racing industry. On July 17, Icon Racing's first starter, a 2-year-old filly named Sacred Goddess, won her debut race at Saratoga Race Course, marking a triumphant start for the syndicate. Werth, who previously co-owned Belmont Stakes and Haskell winner Dornoch, partnered with Ken Kuykendall to create Icon Racing with the mission of inviting friends, family, and new participants into the sport. Sacred Goddess, trained by Jeremiah Englehart and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., showcased a powerful late surge to secure victory, thrilling the ownership group and supporters new to horse racing. Icon Racing currently has nine horses in training, investing over $1.4 million in yearlings, and aims to continue building a diverse and engaged ownership community. The syndicate’s success highlights Werth's passion for making horse racing more accessible and enjoyable for modern sports fans.
