Novant Health Gains Approval for 20-Bed Outpatient Hospital in Greenville, SC

Novant Health has received South Carolina regulatory approval to build a new 20-bed outpatient-focused hospital in Greenville, marking its first significant presence in the Upstate region. The facility, planned for Patewood Drive near Interstate 385, will feature operating rooms, specialty services, and diagnostic imaging, with flexibility for future expansion to meet growing outpatient and specialty care demand. This expansion aligns with Novant's broader strategy to shift toward ambulatory care and redefine hospitals' roles by moving certain procedures to lower-cost outpatient settings, supported by new payer contracts. The hospital is projected to open in early 2027 and is part of Novant's ongoing efforts to expand its footprint in South Carolina, where it already operates urgent care centers, hospitals, and physician practices. Ryan Lee, recently named president of Novant Health Greenville, will oversee the region's growth, emphasizing tailored, community-specific care coordination. Novant aims to become the Southeast's leading regional health system, extending beyond the Carolinas into neighboring states.
