Gauff, Other Top Seeds Exit Early at Wimbledon
French Open champion and world No. 2 Coco Gauff suffered a stunning first-round exit at Wimbledon, losing 7-6(3), 6-1 to Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska. This marked Gauff's second first-round loss at Wimbledon in three years and continued her struggles at the tournament, where she has never advanced past the fourth round. Gauff committed 29 unforced errors and nine double-faults, while Yastremska struck 16 winners. Other top seeds, including American No. 3 Jessica Pegula and Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, were also eliminated on an upset-filled day at SW19. Gauff expressed disappointment and acknowledged the challenges of adapting to grass, while Yastremska celebrated the significance of her win. The rare achievement of winning both the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year was last accomplished by Serena Williams in 2015.
