Disney+ Launches Free ESPN Channels in South Africa From October 2, 2025
Starting October 2, 2025, Disney+ in South Africa will include the ESPN Africa linear channels at no additional cost, expanding the streaming platform's sports offerings. Subscribers will have access to two 24-hour ESPN channels featuring a mix of live and studio sports programming from around the globe, including major US leagues such as the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL, as well as European football leagues and rugby competitions from Australia and Japan. ESPN 2 will emphasize American sports and women's and college competitions, while ESPN will feature international rugby and football leagues. Besides live events, the channels will also provide popular studio shows like "ESPN FC," "First Take," and "SportsCenter," along with acclaimed documentaries such as ESPN's "30 for 30" series. This move reflects Disney's strategy to broaden sports content accessibility across multiple platforms and engage new audiences in South Africa. ESPN will continue to be available on other African platforms like MultiChoice's DStv and StarTimes, ensuring wide regional coverage.
