Brockton Man Held in West Bridgewater Stabbing

Mario Raul Babbs, 38, of Brockton, was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a 36-year-old East Bridgewater man multiple times during a gathering at a West Bridgewater home. Police responded to a Spring Street residence around 11 p.m. and found the victim with severe bleeding before he was transported to Boston Medical Center – South in Brockton; his condition remains unknown. Babbs allegedly forced entry into a bedroom where the attack occurred, then fled but was apprehended in a nearby wooded area by police and a K-9 unit. After a hospital evaluation, Babbs was booked and arraigned in Brockton District Court, where he pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail. A dangerousness hearing is scheduled for May 14. The incident remains under investigation.
