Biles, Duplantis, Real Madrid Win 2025 Laureus Awards
At the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, Simone Biles and Mondo Duplantis won Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year for their outstanding performances at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Biles secured three gold medals and a silver, received her fourth Laureus award (tying Serena Williams), and was recognized for her mental health advocacy and all-time gymnastics record. Duplantis, after three prior nominations, won following a season with two world record pole vaults and Olympic gold, becoming the second track-and-field athlete after Usain Bolt to earn the honor. Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade was awarded Comeback of the Year after overcoming multiple knee injuries to win gold in floor exercise. Real Madrid was named Team of the Year for their domestic and European football successes, and Rafael Nadal received the Sporting Icon award. The ceremony celebrated athletic achievement, resilience, and the inspirational impact of global sporting figures.
