Discord has launched 'Orbs,' a virtual currency currently in limited beta, which rewards users for engaging with in-app advertisements through Quests. Orbs can be redeemed for digital items in the Discord Shop, such as exclusive badges and Discord Nitro credits. The universal reward system simplifies incentives for both users and advertisers, moving beyond the need for brands to supply their own custom rewards. Internal data indicates strong user engagement with Quests so far. Orbs are initially available to a select group of global users on desktop, with plans to expand access and add mobile support soon. The program aims to boost ad engagement and encourage more users to try Nitro without immediate payment.
