Amazon Joins Motion Picture Association

Amazon's Prime Video and MGM Studios will officially join the Motion Picture Association (MPA) on October 1, 2024, marking the first new member addition since Netflix in 2019. This membership expands the MPA's influence, which already includes major studios like Paramount, Sony, and Disney, and enhances efforts in policymaking and content protection for the film and television industry. MPA Chairman Charles Rivkin emphasized the importance of this membership in representing innovative and creative companies, while Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video, stated their commitment to supporting storytellers and sustaining a robust entertainment industry. Amazon has previously collaborated with the MPA through its involvement in the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, focusing on anti-piracy initiatives. The MPA advocates for copyright protections and production incentives, crucial for the industry’s growth. With Amazon's inclusion, the MPA aims to further its mission of enriching local economies and bolstering communities through storytelling.
