The draw ceremony for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals is set for January 27 at the Mohamed V National Theatre in Rabat, Morocco. The Super Eagles of Nigeria, three-time champions, have been placed in Pot 1 to avoid facing top teams like Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt during the group stage. The tournament will run from December 21 to January 18, marking the first AFCON to span two calendar years. Morocco, hosting the event for the first time since 1988, previously withdrew from the 2015 edition due to Ebola concerns. Despite their history of success in the tournament, the Super Eagles have not been listed among the top favorites to win this year, with teams like Cote d'Ivoire and Benin being highlighted instead. Nonetheless, Nigeria holds the record for the most AFCON medals, with 16 in total from 20 appearances.
