Taiwan Advances Sea Drone Testing, Partners on Millions of Combat Drones Amid China Threat

Taiwan is intensifying its defense capabilities in response to increasing military pressure from China, which continues active operations in the Indo-Pacific region despite global conflicts such as the Middle East tensions. President Lai Ching-te has instructed enhanced surveillance and intelligence efforts to monitor Chinese military actions, particularly the movements of two Chinese aircraft carriers near Taiwan and the first and second island chains. Taiwan is focusing on developing advanced drone technologies as part of an asymmetric warfare strategy, showcased by recent demonstrations of Taiwanese-made sea drones capable of carrying substantial explosives. Additionally, Taiwan has entered a strategic partnership with the US-German company Auterion to integrate drone software tested in Ukraine's combat conditions, aiming to deploy millions of autonomous drones to bolster its defense against China. The collaboration with Auterion and domestic efforts to create electronic warfare-resilient drones reflect Taiwan's drive to leverage cutting-edge unmanned systems to deter aggression and offset China's numerical military advantage.
