Philip Rivers Retires Signing One-Day Chargers Contract
Philip Rivers, the iconic NFL quarterback, has officially retired as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers after a 17-year career, most of which he spent with the franchise. Rivers, who played 16 seasons with the Chargers, holds the team's all-time records for passing yards, touchdowns, completions, games played, and wins as a quarterback. Despite last playing in 2020 with the Colts, Rivers expressed a longtime desire to retire as a Charger, emphasizing his gratitude for his time and the relationships he built, particularly with his offensive linemen. Chargers president John Spanos shared that Rivers had discussed retiring as a Charger for years, with mutual respect and appreciation between him and the organization. Rivers' career included eight Pro Bowl selections and six playoff appearances, and although he never reached a Super Bowl, his leadership and passion made him a beloved figure in the franchise's history. The emotional retirement announcement was accompanied by a video tribute highlighting his memorable moments and surprise visits from former teammates.
