Harish Ahuja, the owner of Shahi Exports, has purchased a £21 million home in Notting Hill, London, marking one of the largest residential deals in the UK this year amidst a broader slowdown in luxury real estate. The eight-story property, spanning over 20,000 square feet, was bought in July and was previously owned by a UK-registered charity. Ahuja's son, Anand, and daughter-in-law, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, plan to convert part of the building into their residence after redevelopment, while another section will be transformed into flats. Despite a 19% drop in high-end property deals, the proportion of prime central London homes purchased by Indians increased by 3% from 2019 to 2023. This trend is attributed to rising wealth in India and a growing interest in global real estate investments among Indian buyers. Other recent notable purchases include apartments in Mayfair by separate Indian buyers for £7.85 million and £9.15 million, respectively.
