National Parking Platform Oversight Shifts to BPA
The National Parking Platform (NPP) has launched in England, allowing drivers to pay for parking at participating car parks using their preferred app instead of managing multiple apps. The initiative was developed by the government in partnership with companies such as RingGo, JustPark, and PayByPhone to streamline parking, reduce fines, and foster fairer competition in the parking sector. Oversight has now transitioned from the Department for Transport to the British Parking Association, which will oversee the platform's not-for-profit expansion without extra costs to taxpayers. The NPP builds on years of government-backed trials and has already processed over half a million transactions, with more local authorities expected to participate soon. The platform aims to address frustrations caused by the removal of traditional payment methods and the proliferation of parking apps. The initiative has been welcomed by motorists and industry groups, though its success hinges on broad adoption by councils and private operators.
