Montgomery Habitat Launches New Home Initiative

Habitat for Humanity has launched its 'Blitz Build Initiative' in North Montgomery, marking its return to home construction after a decade-long hiatus due to funding challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative will see the building of three new homes on Millard Fuller Drive, with the project slated to last approximately 90 days. City Councilwoman Julie Beard highlighted the long-awaited road improvements in the area, which have been promised for 20 years, are finally underway. Future homeowners Ashley and Davyion Mayo expressed their excitement about becoming homeowners through this initiative, emphasizing the importance of affordable housing in Montgomery. Executive Director Susan Johnson noted that the organization aims to provide sustainable homeownership opportunities to those in need, fostering community development and reducing crime rates. Volunteers will be instrumental in constructing the homes, which underscores the community's commitment to supporting its members.
