Manipur Violence Intensifies Amid Political Fallout

Manipur has been engulfed in violent protests following the discovery of six bodies, including women and children, allegedly killed by militants in the Jiribam district. In response, the state government imposed an indefinite curfew and suspended internet services in several districts to curb the unrest. Protesters attacked the residences of state ministers and MLAs, including Chief Minister N Biren Singh's house, while security forces used tear gas to disperse the crowds. The National People’s Party (NPP) withdrew its support from the BJP-led state government, citing a failure to restore order. The Ministry of Home Affairs, led by HM Amit Shah, is actively monitoring the situation, urging strict action against violators. The ongoing ethnic conflict between the Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups has claimed at least 250 lives since May last year, and recent events have further exacerbated tensions.
