Mass General Brigham, CVS Seek Approval to Expand Primary Care at Massachusetts MinuteClinics

Mass General Brigham (MGB) and CVS Health are proposing a clinical affiliation to address the shortage of primary care services in Massachusetts by expanding care options at MinuteClinic locations. MinuteClinic, with 37 sites in the state and staffed by around 80 advanced practice providers, aims to provide greater access to primary and preventive care, including same-day appointments, extended hours, and virtual care. If approved, MGB patients could receive in-network primary care at MinuteClinic sites, while all Massachusetts residents would continue to have access to acute care services. The partnership would also offer MinuteClinic patients enhanced access to MGB's network of hospitals, specialists, diagnostic and radiology facilities, and specialty labs, with referrals made based on medical needs. Notably, MGB is not making a financial investment in this affiliation. This initiative comes amid growing concerns about timely access to healthcare in Massachusetts, making primary care a significant focus for policymakers.
