Assamese actress and social media influencer Sumi Bora, along with her husband Tarkik Bora, was detained by the Special Task Force (STF) in Dibrugarh in connection with a multi-crore online stock trading scam. They were wanted after failing to respond to a police notice following the arrest of the prime accused, Bishal Phukan, who allegedly defrauded around 1,500 investors. In a video message, Sumi Bora claimed she intended to surrender and cooperate with the police, citing mental distress from 'defamatory media reports' against her. A lookout notice had been issued against them and four others due to their non-appearance for questioning. The investigation has since been taken over by the CID, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed. The Director General of Police shared a masked photo of the couple, indicating the successful operation of the STF.
