Parents Sentenced for Death of Son Abiyah

Tai and Naiyahmi Yasharahyalah have been sentenced at Coventry Crown Court for the death of their three-year-old son, Abiyah, who suffered from severe neglect and malnutrition due to an extreme vegan diet. Their conviction included charges of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice. Medical examinations revealed that Abiyah experienced significant health issues, including rickets, anaemia, and multiple fractures, suggesting he was denied necessary medical care. After Abiyah's death in early 2020, his body was kept in their bed for eight days before being buried in their garden. The couple, who shunned mainstream society, were arrested in December 2022 after being evicted from their home. The case highlights alarming levels of neglect described by the prosecution as 'breathtaking.'
