Maya Hawke Cast as Wiress in Hunger Games Prequel
Maya Hawke has been cast as Wiress in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel film, Sunrise on the Reaping, which is set 24 years before the original series and centers on a young Haymitch Abernathy's experience in the arena. Wiress, a former District 3 victor and mentor to District 12 tributes, was originally portrayed by Amanda Plummer in the films, and Hawke’s casting continues the trend of bringing back familiar characters in new roles. The film, directed by Francis Lawrence, also stars Joseph Zada as Haymitch, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, and Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner. Based on Suzanne Collins' novel of the same name, Sunrise on the Reaping will explore the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, where 48 tributes enter the arena, doubling the usual number. The movie is scheduled for release on November 20, 2026, and is produced by Color Force and overseen by Lionsgate executives. Hawke is best known for her role as Robin in Netflix's Stranger Things and has also appeared in Inside Out 2 and other films.
