Shane Bieber Signs $14 Million Deal with Guardians

Shane Bieber, the former AL Cy Young Award winner, has agreed to a one-year, $14 million contract to return to the Cleveland Guardians after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The deal includes a $16 million player option for 2026, with a $4 million buyout. Bieber, who only made two starts in 2024 before his surgery, showed promising performance in those outings, throwing 12 scoreless innings and striking out 20. His recovery from surgery may keep him out for a significant portion of the 2025 season, with a potential return around June. Despite his injury challenges, Bieber has a strong career record of 62-32 and a 3.22 ERA over seven seasons with the Guardians. Cleveland had contemplated trading him prior to his elbow issues but is now focused on his return to the rotation.
