Michigan Gas Prices Drop 15 Cents Ahead Memorial Day Travel

Gas prices in Michigan have decreased by 15 cents per gallon since last week, now averaging $3.06 for regular unleaded fuel, which is 6 cents less than last month and 59 cents less than a year ago. In metro Detroit, the average price is $3.09 per gallon, down 8 cents from last week and 51 cents from last year, while the cheapest gas prices are found in Traverse City, Jackson, and Flint. The decline is attributed to lower gasoline demand and slightly increased gasoline stocks, with experts suggesting prices could continue to fall if these trends persist. AAA advises motorists to combine errands, shop around for prices, pay with cash, reduce vehicle weight, drive conservatively, and enroll in fuel rewards programs to save money. Despite the drop, prices remain significantly above wholesale levels, contradicting some political claims about gas prices. Nationally, gas prices have also fallen, with Virginia seeing a 6.2-cent decrease to $2.95 per gallon, reflecting a broader trend of declining fuel costs across the country.
