Sudan PM Idris Visits Egypt Amid Ongoing Civil War

Sudanese Prime Minister Kamel Idris made his first official foreign visit to Cairo since taking office in May 2025, amid ongoing civil war in Sudan between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). During the visit, Idris met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to discuss regional developments and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. Egypt reiterated its strong support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, backing the Sudanese military leadership against the RSF. The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has caused tens of thousands of deaths and displaced over 14 million people, creating one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Despite efforts by regional and international actors, peace talks have largely stalled, complicated by differing allegiances and accusations of external support for the warring factions. Sudan remains divided territorially, with the army controlling the north, east, and center, while the RSF holds Darfur and parts of the south, and the RSF’s attempts to establish a rival administration have raised concerns about deepening divisions.
