Hyundai Mobis Develops Fire-Safe EV Battery Technology

Hyundai Mobis has developed a groundbreaking battery system for electric vehicles (EVs) that features an integrated fire extinguishing mechanism aimed at preventing thermal runaway. This innovative technology can extinguish fires within five minutes of ignition and is designed to prevent the spread of heat and flames to adjacent cells, enhancing overall safety. The system includes a Battery Management System (BMS) and a fire suppression device that utilizes eco-friendly extinguishing agents. Hyundai Mobis has filed several patents for this technology, which is expected to meet and exceed global safety standards as regulations tighten worldwide. Park Yong Jun, Vice President of Battery System R&D at Hyundai Mobis, emphasized the importance of this technology as the demand for larger EVs with extended ranges increases. The company showcased this innovation during its recent Mobis Mobility Day event in Detroit, highlighting its strategic focus on advanced battery systems for the global market.
