Chargers Place Rookie RB Omarion Hampton on Injured Reserve

Rookie running back Omarion Hampton will be placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury and is expected to miss at least four games, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said after Los Angeles' 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders. Hampton exited that game early, was seen in a walking boot, and is slated to undergo further testing to determine the severity of the sprain. The setback compounds depth problems after Najee Harris suffered a season-ending Achilles injury; Hampton entered the week with 314 rushing yards, two touchdowns and 20 receptions for 136 yards. The loss dropped the Chargers to 3-2, and with ongoing offensive-line issues that have left Justin Herbert under pressure the team may need to adjust its offensive approach. If Hampton misses time, Hassan Haskins and recently elevated practice-squad back Kimani Vidal are the likeliest options to absorb touches as L.A. prepares to face the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 12.
