Worker Killed in Byerwen Mine Accident

A 48-year-old worker tragically died in a crane accident at the Byerwen coal mine near Glenden in Queensland's Bowen Basin. Initial reports suggest that the incident involved a pick and carry crane rolling onto its side, leading to his unresponsive state upon discovery. Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) has commenced an investigation, with assurances of thoroughness from CEO Rob Djukic, who expressed condolences to the deceased's family and colleagues. The mine, owned by QCoal, produces around 10 million tonnes of hard coking coal annually. Both RSHQ and Queensland Police are involved in investigating the incident, emphasizing that no workplace death should occur.
