Instagram is testing a new feature that will allow users to reset their content recommendations across Explore, Reels, and Feed, enabling a fresh start with their content preferences. This feature, aimed at enhancing user experience and safety, will be available globally soon and is designed to cater to all users, including teenagers. Users can choose to unfollow accounts that frequently appear in their recommendations before resetting their feed, after which the platform will re-personalize recommendations over time. The initiative comes as part of Meta's broader efforts to improve online safety, especially in anticipation of the UK's Online Safety Act, which requires tech companies to enhance user control over content. Ofcom, the UK media regulator, has welcomed this proactive measure but emphasized the need for further action to ensure user safety. Despite the positive reception, some critics argue that existing regulations still fall short in adequately protecting younger users online.
