Blue Jays One Win From World Series Title
The Boston Red Sox are prioritizing right-handed power this offseason and are weighing pursuits of Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber. Alonso hit 38 homers in 2025, has defensive limitations at first base, and is reportedly seeking a very large, long-term deal Boston may be reluctant to meet. Insider Jen McCaffrey expects Boston to be in on Alonso but says Schwarber could be the better roster fit because of his left-handed power, clubhouse leadership and a shorter, more affordable contract that could make moves like a Masataka Yoshida trade more feasible. Alonso’s age, outs above average and how he would coexist with Triston Casas and a possible Alex Bregman return complicate any signing. In the World Series, the series returns to Toronto for Game 6 with the Blue Jays one win from their first title since 1993 after rebounding from an 18‑inning loss, while the Dodgers face elimination. Los Angeles will start Yoshinobu Yamamoto, coming off consecutive complete-game starts, against Toronto’s Kevin Gausman, and analysts expect a tense, low-scoring pitchers’ duel.
