Peter Lawson, Rower, Found Dead in Thames
Peter Lawson, a 68-year-old experienced rower and British rowing umpire, tragically drowned after a boat capsized in the River Thames near Sunbury Lock on October 11. While five others were rescued, Lawson's body was recovered on October 20 near a weir following extensive search efforts. His family described him as a gentle and loving husband, father, and grandpa, expressing their gratitude for the support from the rowing community during this difficult time. Lawson was also passionate about singing, being a member of four choirs including The Royal Choral Society. Surrey Police are investigating the circumstances of his death, but it is not being treated as suspicious. Chief Inspector Andy Jenkins extended condolences to Lawson's family and emphasized the need for privacy as they grieve.
