Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced plans to transform Kalaburagi into a smart city with an investment of ₹1,685 crore, aimed at improving local quality of life and attracting investment. This announcement coincided with the 'Kalyana Karnataka Amrut Mahotsav', celebrating the region's special status under Article 371(J) of the Constitution. The government is also implementing the 'Kalyana Patha' scheme to enhance road connectivity, with a budget of ₹1,000 crore for constructing 1,150 km of roads in rural areas. Additionally, ₹200 crore will be allocated for basic infrastructure development in Kalaburagi and Ballari municipal corporations. The state aims to generate 4.85 crore person-days of employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme for the fiscal year 2024-25 and plans to develop tourism in Koppal district with ₹100 crore funding. Siddaramaiah emphasized the need for an AIIMS in Raichur and highlighted ongoing health initiatives to combat malnutrition and improve healthcare access in the region.
