Former GP Thomas Kwan Charged With Attempted Murder, Poisoning in Newcastle
Thomas Kwan, a 54-year-old former GP, appeared via videolink at Newcastle Magistrates' Court charged with the attempted murder of Patrick O’Hara, a man in his 70s, and administering the poison thallium to another man in his 50s, Torquil Gundlach. The alleged offences took place in Newcastle between September 2022 and January 2024. Kwan did not enter pleas during the brief court appearance and only confirmed his identity. District Judge Paul Currer stated the seriousness of the charges requires the case to be moved to Newcastle Crown Court, where Kwan is due to appear next on October 9. Kwan was remanded in custody following the hearing. The case involves accusations of poisoning and attempted murder involving two separate victims.
