Massive Sinkhole Closes Alton Park

A massive sinkhole, approximately 100 feet wide and 30-50 feet deep, opened up in Gordon Moore City Park in Alton, Illinois, on June 26, due to a mine collapse. Surveillance footage captured the dramatic incident, which swallowed portions of two soccer fields and a light pole. No injuries were reported, and all scheduled events at the park and the nearby Spencer T Olin Golf Course were canceled as investigations continue.
