Man Arrested for Defrauding Woman as Elon Musk

Jeffrey Moynihan Jr., a 56-year-old man from Bradenton, Florida, was arrested for impersonating Elon Musk on Facebook and defrauding a 74-year-old Texas woman of at least $250,000, although her husband claims the total amount is closer to $600,000. Moynihan convinced the victim to invest in Musk's businesses by promising a $55 million return. The financial transfers were made to accounts linked to Moynihan's business, Jeff's Painting and Pressure Washing, LLC. The Bradenton Police Department's Elder Fraud Unit, which focuses on fraud cases involving victims over 60, arrested Moynihan on grand theft charges. The real Elon Musk has no involvement in the case. In 2024, nearly $3 million have been lost to scams involving elderly victims, according to the Elder Fraud Unit.
