AEG Europe Makes UK Venues Industry-First Operating on 100% Green Energy
AEG Europe has signed a landmark agreement with green energy company Ecotricity to make its UK venues, including The O2 in London, the first in the live entertainment industry to run entirely on the country's greenest energy. This initiative combines Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with a 100% renewable energy supply backed by hourly-matched Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs), utilizing solar and hydro power to provide deep green energy with full transparency and audit-level accountability. The venues covered by this deal include The O2, indigo at The O2, Eventim Apollo, Watford Colosseum, and the University of Wolverhampton at The Halls. AEG's Director of Sustainability, Sam Booth, highlighted that this agreement marks a significant milestone in decarbonizing the live entertainment industry and accelerates renewable energy growth on the National Grid. Ecotricity’s founder, Dale Vince OBE, emphasized that this is a major step forward for live music venues across Britain, building on previous successes of powering outdoor festivals with renewable energy. This move sets a new standard for sustainability in the live sector and demonstrates AEG’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility.
