Islanders Sign Gatcomb to One-Year One-Way NHL Deal

The New York Islanders have signed forward Marc Gatcomb to his first one-way NHL contract, a one-year deal worth $900,000, after an impressive 2024-25 season where he appeared in 39 games and scored eight goals. Gatcomb, who was initially an AHL depth signing, became a key physical presence on the Islanders' fourth line, ranking second on the team with 149 hits despite limited ice time. The 25-year-old winger, a University of Connecticut product, also posted solid numbers in the AHL with Bridgeport and Abbotsford before his NHL call-up. Despite the signing, Gatcomb faces stiff competition for a roster spot due to offseason acquisitions including Jonathan Drouin, Max Shabanov, and Emil Heineman, as well as the expected return of injured players Mat Barzal and Anthony Duclair. The Islanders have remaining contract slots, with one reserved for restricted free agent Maxim Tsyplakov, who has filed for arbitration. Gatcomb's performance last season and his secured one-way contract position him as a contender for a depth role with the Islanders in the upcoming season.
