Pensioners in Greater Manchester face severe hardships this winter due to cuts in winter fuel payments, as the government restricts the allowance to those receiving Pension Credit or means-tested benefits. Approximately 10 million pensioners will be excluded from the payments, which previously helped cover heating costs, with Age UK warning that around 2.5 million low-income pensioners are at risk of becoming poorer as a result.
