Police Intensify DUI Patrols Nationwide Ahead of Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

Police departments across several U.S. cities and states ramped up DUI enforcement efforts around Cinco de Mayo and during weekends, aiming to deter and apprehend impaired drivers. In Austin, targeted weekend operations led to 13 DWI arrests, 51 warnings, and increased public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. Arizona's Tri-City DUI Task Force, supported by state grant funding, conducted saturation patrols resulting in 86 stops and 5 DUI arrests over the holiday weekend. Fresno and Clovis law enforcement emphasized the severe personal and financial consequences of DUI, highlighted by a recent fatal crash involving an impaired driver, and urged partygoers to use safe transportation alternatives. Dublin, California, announced DUI checkpoints and heightened patrols, reminding drivers that impairment can also result from drugs and prescription medications. Similarly, Maryland State Police increased patrols to address the expected rise in impaired driving during Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
