Woman Killed in South Loop Hit-and-Run

Rosa Hernandez, 69, was struck and killed by an SUV while walking to church in Chicago's South Loop around 6:40 a.m. in the 800 block of West Roosevelt Road. The driver, Tammie Chaffin, initially fled the scene, making the incident a hit-and-run, but was later apprehended by police. Chaffin has been charged with misdemeanor DUI and cited for several traffic violations, including failing to reduce speed and driving an uninsured vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene. The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is leading the ongoing investigation. Authorities may release further details as the case develops.
