Australian actor Simon Baker, known for roles in 'The Mentalist' and 'The Devil Wears Prada', faced sentencing for drink-driving after pleading guilty to driving under the influence. Baker was caught by police in Bangalow on July 20, 2024, while driving his Tesla in an erratic manner; he admitted to consuming four glasses of wine at a dinner party. Due to a Microsoft system outage, the police were unable to conduct a blood alcohol analysis, leading to the use of an old-fashioned breathalyzer test which returned a positive result. Although he faced a maximum penalty of 30 penalty units or 18 months in prison, he was released on a conditional order requiring good behavior for nine months, with no conviction established. A second charge of attempting to drive under the influence was dropped.
