Simon Baker Sentenced for Drink-Driving

Australian actor Simon Baker, known for roles in 'The Mentalist' and 'The Devil Wears Prada', faced sentencing for drink-driving after pleading guilty to driving under the influence. Baker was caught by police in Bangalow on July 20, 2024, while driving his Tesla in an erratic manner; he admitted to consuming four glasses of wine at a dinner party. Due to a Microsoft system outage, the police were unable to conduct a blood alcohol analysis, leading to the use of an old-fashioned breathalyzer test which returned a positive result. Although he faced a maximum penalty of 30 penalty units or 18 months in prison, he was released on a conditional order requiring good behavior for nine months, with no conviction established. A second charge of attempting to drive under the influence was dropped. Baker's lawyer represented him in court while he was photographed surfing in Sydney, highlighting his celebrity status amidst the legal proceedings.
