OpenAI Launches Apps SDK, Expands ChatGPT 'Go' Plan
At DevDay OpenAI unveiled a preview Apps SDK that lets developers build full apps inside ChatGPT, embedding third‑party services and interactive interfaces directly into conversations. Live demos showed integrations with Canva, Spotify, Zillow, Figma, Coursera and others—e.g., generating posters and pitch decks, converting sketches, and presenting interactive Zillow maps—with the SDK built on the open Model Context Protocol and an HTML resource for embedding. The SDK gives developers full‑stack control over app data, action triggers and UI and can expose app context back to the LLM; OpenAI said it will add monetization options, including an agentic commerce protocol for in‑chat checkout, plus a future app directory and review process. Apps must meet content and age guidelines (appropriate for ages 13–17), and OpenAI plans to support mature (18+) apps once age verification and controls are implemented. CEO Sam Altman said developer adoption has doubled to 4 million and API usage jumped from about 300 million to 6 billion tokens per minute; OpenAI also said the SDK is available in preview now and that it is expanding a lower‑cost ChatGPT “Go” plan (around $4/€4/£3.50 regionally) into more countries, offering some Plus features and GPT‑5 access but not the higher‑tier “thinking‑high” models.
