The New York Yankees acquired infielder J.D. Davis and cash from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for minor league infielder Jordan Groshans. This trade was made to bolster the Yankees' lineup following injuries to key players Anthony Rizzo (broken forearm) and Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring strain). Davis, a 31-year-old right-handed hitter, has a .273 career batting average and has played for multiple teams, including the Astros, Mets, Giants, and A's. He hit .232 with four homers and five RBIs in 135 plate appearances with Oakland this season. The Yankees also called up Ben Rice from the minors to fill in for Rizzo and Oswald Peraza following Stanton's injury. Groshans, 24, is expected to be assigned to the Double-A Midland RockHounds by the Athletics.
