BYD to Launch New Blade Battery in 2025

BYD has confirmed plans to launch a new generation of its Blade EV batteries in 2025, which are expected to enhance driving range and extend battery life. The company’s managing director, Cao Shuang, highlighted the advancements in battery technology during an interview at COP29, emphasizing the focus on sustainable battery reuse systems for applications like energy storage. The new Blade batteries, which utilize lithium iron phosphate chemistry, are designed to be safer and less bulky compared to traditional batteries, with the promise of improved energy density. BYD is currently the second-largest global battery manufacturer and has partnered with BorgWarner to expand its battery technology reach. Despite facing competition from other battery makers like CATL, BYD remains committed to innovation in the electric vehicle sector. The upcoming Blade batteries will be incorporated into BYD's new luxury sub-brand Yangwang, targeting the premium market.
