Pedestrian Fatalities and Critical Injuries in California, Quebec
Multiple pedestrian collisions this week left people dead or critically injured across California and Quebec, including fatal strikes in Sacramento, South San Francisco and Quebec City and a critically injured woman in the San Fernando Valley. In Sacramento, separate crashes included a man who fell into eastbound traffic on 47th Avenue Sunday night and was struck by two vehicles, and a pedestrian hit near the 200 block of North 16th Street early Monday who later died; Major Collision units and coroner’s offices are investigating and intersections were closed for hours. Los Angeles detectives are searching for a driver in a fatal Van Nuys Boulevard hit-and-run and investigating a separate Valley Glen hit-and-run that left a woman in critical condition; the city has offered a reward for information. On Highway 101 in South San Francisco, a man ran into traffic and was killed and another vehicle subsequently struck the stopped car; one driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. In Spotsylvania County, Erick Cervantes Vallejo, 23, was arrested on a felony hit-and-run charge after 61-year-old James Bijesse was found dead in the roadway and additional charges are possible; authorities said victim names will be released after next-of-kin notifications and urged drivers to use alternate routes while investigations continue.
