Man Arrested After Car Crashes Through Russian Consulate Gates Sydney

A 39-year-old man was arrested after driving his car through the gates of the Russian Consulate-General in Woollahra, Sydney. Police were called around 8 a.m. following reports of a suspicious vehicle parked in the consulate driveway; when officers attempted to speak with the driver, he allegedly rammed the gates. A 24-year-old police constable was injured in the incident and treated by paramedics on the scene. The man is currently assisting police with their inquiries at Surry Hills Police Station. Footage shows a white SUV with smashed windows parked near a Russian flag on the consulate grounds. Pro-Kremlin influencer Simeon Boikov, who has been staying at the consulate for over 1000 days, suggested the incident might have been an attempt at diplomatic asylum.
