Apple plans two-phase iPhone 18 launch, includes foldable model

Apple is reportedly planning a major shift in its iPhone launch strategy for the iPhone 18 series, starting in 2026, by splitting the release into two phases. The premium models—including iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, a redesigned iPhone 18 Air, and Apple’s first foldable iPhone—are expected to debut in fall 2026, while the standard iPhone 18 and budget iPhone 18e could follow in spring 2027. This staggered approach is intended to help Apple better manage manufacturing, logistics, and workforce requirements, particularly as the lineup grows to include up to six models. The shift also aligns with Apple's ongoing efforts to diversify its supply chain by increasing iPhone production in India and reducing reliance on China. Hardware improvements and new designs, such as an ultrathin iPhone 18 Air and potential in-display Face ID for Pro models, are also anticipated. The move marks a significant departure from Apple’s traditional simultaneous fall launches and is expected to streamline production while giving new products more market attention.
